Admissions Process

Our admissions team utilizes the following information to carefully evaluate each candidate:

SCHOOL TOUR

During this visit, parents typically come in to discuss their student’s strengths and needs in detail with our team. We will also provide you with a detailed discussion of our academic offerings, as well as a tour of our facility.

APPLICATION CHECKLIST

Below are the required documents for the application process. Documents can be returned via email to general@emeraldcityschool.com or by mail.

  • Parent Application with non-refundable fee of $150.00
  • Records Release Form
  • Teacher Recommendation Form
  • Copies of current year report cards and the final report from the previous school year and/or IEPs (if applicable)
  • A complete psych-educational assessment done by a qualified professional within three years of application to Emerald City School.
  • Copies of Standardized Group Achievement Test results.

STUDENT SHADOW DAY

If it is determined that your student can be served at ECS, they will be invited to join us for a shadow day, in order to get a feel for our school. This visit typically consists of a combination of classroom/academic instruction, social/free choice time, and and electives such as fine arts or PE. Observing your student in these various settings helps us get a feel for who they are as a learner, as well as give them a chance to try ECS on for size. Students typically shadow along side same-aged peers, and follow the daily schedule set forth for the day.

Assessments

If a complete psycho-educational assessment has not been completed, please ask us for assistance and a referral. The assessment must include the following detailed subtests:

Results of a diagnostic interview, which includes cognitive testing, achievement testing and psychosocial evaluation.

Measures of information processing: These instruments should evaluate working memory, short and long term memory, processing speed, auditory processing, and graphomotor skill and automaticity.

Assessments to rule in or out Attention Deficit Disorder, with scores that reflect both objective and subjective criteria. Examples are: BASC2, Acters, Conners, Gordon Diagnostic and TOVA.

Results must include a specific diagnosis and actual test scores using standard and percentile score
