Community success depends on the enthusiastic support of each individual. Emerald City School recognizes outstanding community support from our students by keeping track of their good deeds through Pack Points.
Named for our school team name “The Wolfpack,” Pack Points are ping-pong balls that students place in a glass jar at the entrance of the school when teachers want to recognize something they’ve done to be helpful. (It’s less “10 points to Gryffindor,” more of a fun thank you.) Students continue to impress us by finding new ways to earn Pack Points, from staying behind from lunch to wipe tables to solving conflicts with calm words.
When the jar is full, the students receive a special treat. This is something the students vote on beforehand, and it is something to look forward to and get excited about as a school community. So far, our Pack Point rewards have been a trip to the candy store on the monorail and a pajama-party movie afternoon. Next up: Pike Place Market!
We want to encourage the intrinsic motivation to be kind toward others. When positive behavior is recognized immediately with a concrete reward, students develop strong associations of prosocial behaviors and happy feelings. Kindness and positivity flow together to help students grow as individuals and as a group.
